We are dedicated to guiding responsible global AI adoption through insightful thought leadership on AI policy. A key part of this mission is amplifying inclusive voices that contribute unique perspectives
to the global policy dialogue.
PolicyStack AI's President, Shaundra Watson, and Vice-President, Namaala Liebenthal, leverage their extensive and complementary expertise to drive successful execution of PolicyStack AI's mission. Shaundra brings a diverse mix of public and private sector legal and policy experience. She spent over a decade at the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) where she served, among other things, as an Attorney-Advisor to the Chair, working on privacy, data security, and technology issues, and represents AI developers and other software providers fueling technological breakthroughs. She is knowledgeable about new and emerging AI laws in the EU, Asia, and US states, as well as industry best practices. She has a keen understanding of the importance of responsible data governance policies and the appropriate policy environment necessary to advance AI innovation.
Namaala's versatility as an entrepreneur, creator, and corporate and commercial attorney at US and Zambian law firms, where she worked on deals valuing over USD $25 billion and advised the banking and financial sectors, adds significant depth to the AI policy dialogue. Her unique blend of insights on the levers to incentivize investment and adoption by key sectors, the needs of small businesses in the Global South to become meaningful participants in the AI ecosystem, and the importance of balanced safeguards for creators' rights enables her to bridge the typical fault lines in AI policy debates and offer a path forward that accounts for varied interests.
Shaundra and Namaala both share a passion for international issues, making the "Global" for PolicyStack AI a feature, not a bug. Shaundra has had a global portfolio in each of her professional roles. Notably, she spent a decade handling international issues at the FTC, including as a key contributor of the US negotiating team for the development of a transatlantic data transfer privacy framework, and as a Counsel in the Office of International Affairs, where she spearheaded several international initiatives, engaged routinely with regulators and policymakers around the world, and advised on the development of foreign regulatory frameworks.
Namaala, who is of British and Zambian descent, was born in the United States but currently lives in Zambia. Her entrepreneurial endeavors have led her across the African region, and she has her finger on the pulse of the cultural heartbeat of a rich heritage.
Together, their varied but invaluable experience has created a platform to amplify unique perspectives on policies that will guide AI technologies transforming our communities, our businesses, and our world.
